MODERN LEECH THERAPY

Benefits

The secrets start in the First Phase of therapy, which is as soon as leech bites the skin. During this phase, the bite will release a neurotransmitter that trigger biochemical process. During the Second Phase, the leech’s salivary glands secrets 3 main compounds:

  • Anticoagulant: leech secret anticoagulant compound, which is Hirudin. The function is to prevent blood from clotting. It will cause blood to ooze smoothly up to 6 hours after the therapy, allowing pus and blood clots removed.
  • Anaesthetic: this compound will ease the pain experience by the patient.
  • Vasodilator and prostaglandin: these compounds will further cause enlargement of the blood vessel and increase the local circulation and improve the blood supply. Therefore it will also reduce swelling.

  • During the Third and final Phase, the interaction between these 3 main bioactive compounds will ensure to blood sucking activity and the local body part circulation goes well. These three phase of mechanism will have benefits in treating:

  • Infected wound
  • Furuncles
  • External ear infection
  • Local skin swelling.
  • Blood clots underneath the skin.
  • Early phase of diabetic wound over limb.
